Neil's City Hall Diary - 25 May 2021
Welcome to my City Hall Diary, my regular updates about my work in London City Hall as your Assembly Member for Croydon and Sutton.
My second week in City Hall, including:
A new Podcast: "Inside City Hall", hosted by myself and fellow new Conservative AM Nick Rogers. With guests, discussion, and in-depth look at the issues affecting London. Search "Inside City Hall" in Spotify, Apple podcasts, or your favourite podcast app.
Submitting Questions to the Mayor:
- about the Sandilands tram crash, about what went wrong, and have we really learned the lessons to stop is happening again?
- About transport investment for the London Cancer Hub,
- And pinning the Mayor down on what his plans to reopen the economy will actually achieve. He can't just be throwing money at press releases and hoping for the best.
Cross party working is important, so I've begun my regular meetings with the 5 MPs and 2 Council leaders across Sutton and Croydon. We represent 3 different parties, and it's important we work together
Antisemitism. The scenes of anger and violence on London's streets this last week have been terrible, I am appalled that Jewish people in London now feel afraid just to go peacefully about their day. I raised this directly with Met Police Commissioner Cressida Disk while Conservative GLA Leader Susan Hall has also written to her expressing our concerns.
Finally, Parkrun. This is a great, volunteer-run weekly 5k run in parks across London and around the world. They're ready to resume but need landowner permission - we have 4 in Croydon and Sutton and neither Council has yet given them the green light. I've written to both Councils urging them to grant the permission so the events can go ahead this month.
